Self Sovering Identity & its User Experience

Research about the final implementation of digital identity and how we will be integrating it into our lives.

I had never heard about this term until I met a woman leading a startup called Gataca in which later on I end up working for 2,5 years. Her views were strong and specific, talking about online security and security breaches of people's data from big companies' databases. The logic and process around how I should connect something called "digital identity" with why this technology was going to prevent these kinds of events from happening came later. Moreover, it promised to reset the entire set of interactions around how we identify ourselves within our surrounding entities and society.

In this series of posts, I will try to consolidate and debrief my journey of understanding a specific application of blockchain technology to identity construction and verification. I will explore how this is going to change the whole system from the ground up; from voting to logging into your favorite digital platform, to picking up a notification from your preferred post office, or even entering your favorite nightclub.

The conclusions from my research were about trying to forsee how the aplication of this technology will shape which user experiences today, which ones will be made obsolete and what is not yet being found at its "final language" regarding the possibilties of the technology. How we are yet trying to replicate old models within a the new technology instead of staring direct to the possibilities of the technology
