Rethinking identity solutions
Product design Lead, design-system for a multi product system, and Front-end Lead
Problem
Understanding the self-sovereign identity stack into coherent products that people, institutions, and governments can trust.
Outcome
Bringing down state of the art level tech into a usable new paradigm of identity verification set ot products, admin, registry, and white-label product ecosystem, reaching 100K+ wallet downloads.
Context
I joined Gataca as its first product hire. Gataca is a MIT born company. It was building state of the art self-sovereign identity technology backbone and work with and around W3C standards, Spain's FNMT and Correos and similar agencies in other EU Governments and European public-sector initiatives.
The MVP product I got handled was security-led and blockchain based oriented, not product-led. First steps were about deeply understanding the technology limits and new paradigm that affected how identity user experiences were going to shift on top of it. I defined the wallet, issuer and verifier tools, institutional admin, registry, white-label model, and the business logic connecting them.
Reframe the product
I mapped holders, issuers, verifiers, registries, recovery actors, and institutions before redesigning screens. That turned a capability-led MVP into a connected wallet, admin, registry, and white-label product model. I lead the core design system design to be extrapolated to the variaty of products and services and ready to white label it for 3rd parties integrating the Gataca's Technology stack into permitting their desired identity verification product flows.
Give every party a clear role
The wallet made credentials, sharing, and recovery understandable without protocol language. Behind it, the admin separated the three institutional roles: issue credentials, verify them, or vouch for a trusted claim.
Scale trusted patterns
Recovery, revocation, rejected requests, invalid proofs, and unavailable services were core states. I led the design system across iOS, Android, and web so the same trusted patterns could scale across products and white-label implementations.
Outcome
The result was a connected wallet, admin, registry, and white-label ecosystem. Engineering grew from 4 to 12; the wallet reached 100K+ downloads and served governments, banks, universities, and companies across Europe and Latin America.
Trust came from making actors, consent, state, and failure legible across the whole product.
