After a series of significant personal and professional shifts that have almost taken me back a decade or more, I am thrilled to join Nation3 DAO as part of the team that will be named SolarGuild. SolarGuild is a subset curated from within the DAO, committed to effectively pushing forward its primary objective: building an implementation of the fundamental ideas proposed by what is termed the Network State, a term coined by Balaji.

This initiative is led by a team under Luis Cuende, Anastasiya & 0xGallego, who together have been instrumental in propelling this innovative idea, especially notable in its implementation logic.

An Idea That Resonates

This idea deeply resonates with me from a research and real-world application perspective. It aligns with my work on the future of cities that I've been carrying out for over eight years, a project I've named Grid Housing based on my architecture thesis.

It explores an specific application of blockchain technologies to democratize and reinvent the places we currently consider cities. In our work, “global exchangers” are considered as a way of referring to new cities that, due to their geographical location and cultural evolution, are becoming more and more detached from their immediate environment.

These cities distance themselves so much on the socio-political level from the countries that host them, we need new definitions to explain their behavior. This begs the question: could it be that New York and London have more in common with each other than with the countries that host them?

They are creating economic, cultural, and social cores that are so distinctive that they have already been referred to as city-states on several occasions.

There are several studies around these cores how historically grow and evolve. Their footprints based on population density and activity.

Micronations and the City-State

The concept of the city-state is not new; it exists in reality. There have been multiple individual and collective attempts at representations and sovereign creations of states by individuals and groups.

Several years ago, these were termed as micronations, and have been the subject of study, trial, and error for centuries, even under my own research. Each has a wonderful story; I invite you to investigate and read about them Micro-Nations.

The Future State

The idea challenges the established notion of state sovereignty and how it has evolved over the years. It presents an approach where the current status quo is questioned, and imagination is given free rein to envision how a future state can be structured.

In essence, we're looking to utilize as much technology as possible to gravitate towards a model that is as horizontally distributed as possible, thereby empowering the final individual. We question what a state is, how its pillars—executive, legislative, and judicial—are founded, and from there, seek to rebuild from the bottom, starting with the foundations of a new state.

This includes the development of a new Constitution (IPFS), and a new model of legal text representation that allows definitions to be inherited and serves as an evolutionary primitive basis from a legal standpoint: LinkedMD.

First goal, build the core base layer, the legal jurisdiction for Nation3.

Special Economic Zones

This long-term approach allows for the implementation of a new legal structure and its creation, which is the first objective of our team. We aim to end with the creation of Special Economic Zones, and determine how to implement an agreement in an existing country to create a sovereign zone governed by its own legal autonomy.
