Technical Baccalaureate

September 1st, 2004

After school and the 3D course, I went through the Spanish Bachillerato Tecnológico. In English, I use Technical Baccalaureate, although it is closer to a science and technology track within upper secondary education than to a vocational qualification.

It was the bridge between being interested in computers and images and deciding to study architecture. I was still moving between different kinds of making: drawing, geometry, technical subjects, physical space, and the computer as a tool for all of them.

I did not choose architecture because I had a fixed picture of myself as an architect. I chose it because it was broad enough to keep several of those interests alive. It could be technical, visual, spatial, social, and speculative at the same time.

The decision gave me a direction, but it did not simplify anything. It made the field larger.
